New York Has Everything I Dreamt Of!

Placeholder ImageWhat should I tell about New York that has not been said before. Coming from India I compare it with ‘ Mumbai’ a mid western city located in India which is most commonly known as ” Mayanagri” in Hindi. So is New York for me, the city of dreams. With high significance of fast pace life and full spectrum view of day to day life, I would say New York is an oasis for people looking to explore all colors of the world.

Watching fashion focused New Yorkers from a small glass window of my regular cafe, I feel as if someone has carefully curated the lifestyle of this city. The city is glamorous, outreaching, diverse and empowering. There is a  bittersweet energy that flows like a wind from top of the towers to cozy bedrooms of your small condos. I have my own reasons to love this place and often than not I feel speechless trying to explain my reasons to people. This is ironical, isn’t it?

Many people ask me, why New York? why did you choose NYC and not any other city in America? My answer to them is, I have not chosen New York, it chose me. There,  I said it!

New York is certainly unpredictable but it is also reliable in some ways. People take the same trains, walk the same streets, meet their beaus on the same corners and are extremely picky in choosing restaurants. It is only the new comers (like myself) in the city who love to explore different cuisines and restaurants. Today in this article I am going to write about my experience eating and drinking the best this city has to offer.

Yummy milkshakes of ‘Black Tap’!

Black Tap is a classic burger joint in SoHo. They are totally upscale but not uptight! They call themselves a burger joint but they offer a lot more. Yes, I tried their fancy looking milkshakes and they are ridiculously delicious. Don’t take my word on this, just check out the below image. For more foodgasm, check out their Instagram page.

Big fat pizza slice from ‘Artichoke’!

Artichoke pizza place has multiple locations across the city but my favourite one is in the East village. Obviously because it is close to my collage and it is surrounded by other food joints which makes it easier for me to binge eat. Artichoke offers a savory white pizza with a delicious artichoke zing that will have you coming back for more time and time again.

Check out this mouthwatering slice!

I swear I can eat this in one go.

Street food is treat food! I am not saying it, the Halal Guys are!

If you’re a fan of food carts then New York is your place.

Halal Guys is the place for hungry new Yorker trying to grab a bite on the go. They first started a hot dog cart in New York City, then pivoted to selling halal food to Muslim taxi drivers who at the time had few outlets for authentic halal food in the five boroughs. Incredible, isn’t it? During office lunch breaks, hundreds of people line up to get their amazing food. These carts are all over Manhattan but can be seen conspicuously in midtown Manhattan. The best part is, these food carts are perfect for late-night food runs or hangover cures. By the way I am not sure if the chicken gyros actually cure hangover but for me it works!

I have to tell you a lot about fancy restaurants in the city as well, but we can do that in my next blog.

Coming back to my overwhelming emotions about New York, yes there is no way I can ever get over this urban oasis. It is a city of dreams just how Alica Keys says, ‘ I got a pocket full of dreams, baby I am from New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made up, there is nothing you can do…’ okay I can go on but again I am not a very good singer.

If you are traveling to New York, my advise for you is to forget your itinerary. Don’t bother covering places, instead just walk aimlessly, explore the streets, pull up your head and watch the skyline and who knows you’ll bump in to someone or something that’ll change your life. It’s true New York makes you believe in serendipity!
